From January 2026 we will officially be known as The Starfish Way!
Previously, our charity was known as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Perth and Kinross Association, however over the years it has led to some confusion about who we are and what we do. We often get mistaken for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a much larger organisation. The confusion has at times meant that we have been overlooked for funding opportunities and referrals for young people, therefore we wanted to make a positive change that would help to support the future longevity of our organisation.
The Starfish Way is our flagship programme, designed to support young people with additional support needs to attain awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Therefore, it seemed only right that we changed our charity name to more closely reflect the work we do. Nothing has changed in terms of our programme of activity and we will continue to support our young people working hard to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
History of The Starfish Way

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Perth and Kinross Association was founded over 30 years ago to help young people in Perthshire participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) and provide support to DofE group volunteers. Nine years ago, we identified a significant lack of participants with additional support needs accessing the DofE award, and in response, we developed and launched the Starfish Way programme (SFW). Starfish Way provides personalised support for some of Perthshire’s most vulnerable young people facing challenges with mental health, poverty, and lack of opportunity, to achieve accredited awards, confidence and life skills through our unique learning framework. Now in our 9th year, Starfish Way continues to expand as demand for our services to support vulnerable young people across Perth & Kinross reaches a new high.
