It’s nearly time to head back into classroom..
What you can enjoy
Whilst working on this module, you must volunteer your time for 1 hour each week on a project of your own choice or you can choose to take on a different volunteering project each week. Please note that you can finish this module in either 12 or 24 weeks depending on the Duke of Edinburgh Award level that you are currently working towards.
If you have decided that you would like to volunteer in your local school, please have a look at the ways in which you could help your teachers in lessons throughout the school day or if you would rather setup a volunteering project with your friends or even your whole school, please look into how this could be organised in the form of setting up clubs or groups that stand for awareness promoting an important message.
You could share why your school should research more about important campaigns that are currently happening throughout the world or you should discuss with your friends why your school should strive to be more eco-friendly amid the climate change crisis that we are currently dealing with – this could be done through creating posters that spread awareness of facts and statistics of why you decided to start working on a certain project or a certain campaign; you could create a PowerPoint presentation to explain to your class why you have decided to volunteer.
there are So many ways to help
If you have decided that you would like to volunteer within your local community, you could get more involved with local wildlife and conservation projects that protect endangered animals; these projects are always thankful for someone like you to help them count current animal numbers and doing this will be great fun for you to do in your spare time.
In your local city centre, you could help setup and organise fetes or monthly farmers markets before, during and after these events have taken place; there will be local seasonal events that take place annually that you could also get more involved in and all these events are usually run by businesses or charities who are always looking for extra volunteers like you to help them out.
Our local green spaces are beneficial to those who visit them and the groups of general public volunteers try their best to make sure that these green spaces are kept to a high standard. You could help these gardening groups plant and maintain the green spaces that they work in, you could help them to create and maintain walking or cycling paths and you could help to organise weekly litter picking sessions in order to keep the city centre near where you live neat and tidy.
Let’s get started!
Please have a look at the credit section at the bottom of the volunteering suggestions guide within this module to find out how you can keep a track of all the volunteering activities that you take part in whilst studying this module and if you require any more advice and support, please don’t hesitate to ask your DofE leader for further information.
I hope you found it interesting to learn about what is featured within the Community & School module and you are looking forward to giving back to those who have helped you but also to those who may be in need within your local school and community.
