The summer holidays are a fantastic time of the year…
…to focus on getting more Fit and Active when you are making the most of the gorgeous Scottish sunshine in your spare time more often.
The Fit and Active module which is featured on the Distance Learning Hub within our website is a 12-week course that is designed for when you are completing your Duke of Edinburgh Award’s physical section at Bronze level, this module gives you a variety of fitness activities and challenges that have been created to make you more active and to enable you to improve your stamina levels.
You can choose to take part in up 12 activities mentioned throughout this module for one week only or you can choose a different activity to take part in everyday meaning that you can repeat the activities that you enjoyed doing the most after you have worked through them all for the first time.
What you can enjoy
Remember to fill in a logbook of all the activities that you take part in, especially if you are doing this module as part of your Duke of Edinburgh Award physical section.
Whilst you are studying this module, you will have the opportunity to take part in various exercises but please remember to only exercise if you are feeling well enough to and always drink water whilst exercising to ensure that you stay hydrated.
Always start each exercise with a warmup routine and finish with a warm down routine. there are many helpful videos on YouTube to help you with this. Everyone should be aiming to do at least a hour of physical activities that promote better cardio health and try to break long amounts of sitting.
Once you have looked the introduction section of this module, you will be learning the comparison between what aerobic and moderate intensity exercises are but before you take part in each of these themed sessions please stop exercising if you start to feel any pain or if you start to feel unwell and contact your doctor for more advice and support.
Looking For A Challenge?
During the first Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, we all watched Joe Wick’s YouTube fitness classes to ensure we stayed fit and active from the comfort of our living rooms. To start your first day of this 12-week module, you will be following a 30 mins warmup session with none other than Joe Wicks himself! After you have completed this warmup why not head out on a lovely walk around your local area to help you to clear your mind and prepare for the day that lies ahead of you? If you are a dog owner, why not take your furry friend out for some exercise alongside you?
If you enjoyed taking part in Joe Wick’s warmup video, if you search for Joe Wick’s YouTube channel online, there are various other exercise videos you can choose from to take part in or if you would rather exercise in the beautiful outdoors, then why not try out the NHS’s “Couch To 5K” challenge or download the “Couch To 5K” app from your phone provider’s app store, put on your trainers and head outside into the sunshine!
Let’s get started!
Once you set yourself this challenge, by the end of the 6 weeks you will be pleased at how far you can run without feeling tired easily.
I hope you have enjoyed learning more about what the Fit and Active module involves and it has encouraged to get Fit and Active whilst making the most of the sunshine during the summer months this year.
