Digital Connectivity
A big thank you to Vodafone who have very kindly donated 30 sim cards to share with our young people, including refugees and asylum seekers. These sims cards will provide call time and data that will allow our young people to access our Distance Learning Hub, connect with employers and job search, access support services and create and maintain social connectivity. The sim cards will be used with mobile phones provided by Digital Lifelines Small Grants Fund, who also provided laptops, connectivity and staffing for our Community Hub, helping to ensure digital inclusivity for all.
Cultybraggan
We would like to say a huge thank you to The Gannochy Trust for their support for the development of our second Starfish Way site in Cultybraggan, west Perthshire. Due to open in early 2024, the World War 2 Nissen Hut will be an activities, residential, expedition and respite centre for young people with additional support needs and their families, as well as other youth groups across Scotland and beyond. We are incredibly excited to see the renovations progress and look forward to inviting everyone to the grand opening in the new year.
Cultybraggan
We are delighted to receive funding from Perth & Kinross Council Place Based Investment Programme for the renovations of Hut 47 at Cultybraggan WW2 Prisoner of War camp. The Capital funding award received will assist with the development of this second site as an activities, residential, expedition and respite centre for young people with additional support needs and their families in the beautiful Comrie countryside. With work already underway, we are very excited about opportunities this fabulous site will offer and hope to open in early 2024.
Digital Community Hub
With generous support from the Lottery Community Fund, we are thrilled to announce the opening of our Community Hub at the Award Office in Scone – a warm and safe space for young people and their families. As well as a base for Starfish Way and Duke of Edinburgh Award activities, we are extending the use of this multi-use space and its facilities to other local groups. The flexible space with comfortable seating for informal gatherings also includes laptops, phones and digital connectivity, kindly provided by the Digital Lifelines Fund The Community Hub can also accommodate other health and wellbeing activities including yoga and meditation, cookery and arts and crafts. We continue to share our minibus and Boma motorised off-road wheelchair with other Perthshire-based community and youth groups and further afield, and also make our stores of high-quality clothing, camping and outdoor equipment available, allowing equal access to all to participate in expeditions and outdoor adventures.
