Autumn is the time of year…
…where the trees change their colours and many woodland animals have started to hibernate and store their food supply to help them survive through the upcoming winter.
Not only is nature and woodland wildlife preparing to change and regenerate this Autumn, but you can also use this autumnal time of year to learn more about Outdoor Learning by taking part in this particular module which is featured within the Skills Section of our Distance Learning Hub and is suitable for participants who are currently working on their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze level.
What you will learn
In addition, to using the birdwatching checklist that was provided for you to use during Week 2 of this module, you have the opportunity to take part in the RSPB’s Wild Challenge that will encourage you to connect and learn about nature through various of fun and engaging activities.
To take part in this particular challenge, you must setup an account and an online profile before you begin your Wild Challenge journey. You can work through each Challenge activity at any pace you like and you will be shown a wide range of easily accessed resources and activities to enable you to make the most of the change of seasons and shows you that there’s always something to do throughout the year, no matter what the unpredictable Scottish weather may bring!
Positives about autumn…
There are many positives about Autumn from the crunching sound of fallen leaves under your feet, to digging out your favourite cosy clothing to wear when you are heading out outdoors and finally, we gain an extra hour of daylight once the clocks have been set back enabling us to get outdoors earlier than usual.
Autumn is so special because it is time for all the fruits, vegetables and crops to be harvested, the overall temperatures are beginning to cool down and the nights are gradually becoming darker.
If you are interested in taking part in this particular module to enable you to immerse yourself in Outdoor Learning in your spare time during the October Holidays this year, then please head over to our website to sign up and enrol yourself today!
